netcup price increase (September 2026): what changed and what stays the same

#netcup#vps#pricing

On 22 September 2026 netcup announced a price increase for new orders. This post summarises what netcup itself says changed, what stays the same for existing contracts, and what to do about it. It uses only netcup's price adjustment page and the CEO's statement in the netcup customer forum. I'm not listing prices, because netcup's order page is the only place that is always current.

The short version

  • The new prices apply to new orders only.
  • Existing contracts are not increased, and that includes renewals.
  • Existing customers can still upgrade within the same generation at the old price.
  • netcup says there will be no Black Friday-style promotions in this market situation.

What changed for new orders

According to netcup's announcement, these products are affected: Root Server, VPS (x86), VPS (ARM64), VPS Lite and Managed Private Server. The CEO's forum post gives the following details:

ProductWhat netcup says
VPS LitePrices up by up to 20%. Specifications stay the same.
VPS (x86)Prices up by up to 40%. Disk storage is reduced, based on netcup's analysis of actual disk usage. VPS stay on flash-based storage with RAID 6, but netcup can't guarantee NVMe.
Root ServerPrices up by between 70% and 110%. Disk storage is reduced here too. A new RS 500 is added for smaller systems. RS 12000 and RS 16000 are back in the lineup, but only on request.
VPS (ARM)Aligned with the VPS specifications, at the same price as the VPS.
Managed Private ServerNew plan structure based on root server prices plus a surcharge for the managed service, with more choice than before.

netcup also says it is restructuring its plan portfolio, so plan names and sizes you remember may no longer match the order page.

Why, according to netcup

The CEO points to sharply rising hardware prices, especially RAM and flash storage, and says the whole market is sold out, including refurbished parts. He writes that netcup's own purchase prices are about five times what they were a year ago, and that they keep rising every week. He lists the alternatives netcup says it rejected: selling out of everything, overselling servers, or keeping prices and cutting specifications. netcup also says it stopped selling at the old prices a little before the RAM ran out, so it can keep serving existing customers on the cheaper hardware.

That is netcup's explanation. I can't check their purchasing costs, so treat it as their account of the situation.

If you already have a netcup server

  • Your price doesn't change. Netcup says existing contracts continue under the previous terms and stay unchanged at the start of later billing periods.
  • You can still scale up. An upgrade within the same product generation at the old terms is possible in the Customer Control Panel (CCP). netcup's example is an RS 1000 G12 to an RS 2000 G12. An upgrade to a newer plan generation is not possible.
  • Server exchange. The CEO writes that you keep the old G12 prices if you transfer ownership through netcup's Tauschbörse, but only while stocks last or as long as customers offer plans for exchange.
  • You can object. netcup's terms allow price increases, and customers have the right to object. According to netcup, an objection results in extraordinary termination. See their help page on objecting to a price increase. For existing contracts there is no increase announced, so this matters mainly for future changes.

If you want a new server

Look at the total on the order page, not at any price you remember from before, and check the specifications, since disk sizes were reduced. A few things that help:

What about voucher codes and sales?

Plan names and details on other pages of this site may be older than the 22 September change, so always trust netcup's order page. If you use a voucher, check that the total actually drops before you pay; the redeem guide shows how. The codes I list are on the VPS and root server voucher pages.

On sales: the CEO writes: "There will be no price promotions like Black Friday in this market situation." That describes the current situation, not a promise about the future. If netcup announces anything, it will be on their site first.
